As usual, at the end of each year, the website viva-games.ru offers a rating of the "most played" games for ZX Spectrum, meaning those that were played the most. Since it's impossible to accurately calculate such information for "physical" Spectrums, the statistics are calculated based on online versions of the games (which, however, are absolutely no different, as these are classic games, simply run in an emulator).

How is this rating compiled?

Every time a user of the viva-games.ru website launches a game, we start recording statistics: how long the game was launched, for how long a person played it (only active time is considered, when any buttons were pressed or the mouse was moved), and how many people played the game throughout the year. This rating only considers classic ZX Spectrum games, as well as those released before 2010.

Why do you need this rating?

If you are planning to develop something for the ZX Spectrum and want to make something popular, use these games as an example to follow. Or maybe you are just looking for something to play during the New Year holidays? And despite the fact that the audience of viva-games.ru is 70% comprised of residents from Russia and nearby countries, we can extrapolate the information in this rating to the whole world, because there are not many Russian-language games in the list, and Spectrum enthusiasts worldwide are very similar. And here are the tables themselves. The total number of games that were launched at least once in 2021 is 3714 (out of a collection of over 25,000 games).
